Soundwalking Lisboa
Soundwalking Lisboa is a collective geolocated soundwalk created in Pablo Sanz’s workshop at Lisboa Soa 2022. Starting on 23 August 2022, the participants composed sound pieces and narratives for the route between the Carpintarias de São Lázaro and the Teatro Romano, the two venues the festival occupied that year.
The result is a public artwork published on the ECHOES platform. Each sound is triggered by the listener’s location and movement; with the ECHOES app, a phone and headphones, the walk stays available to experience in situ. It gathers 38 geolocated pieces by the workshop participants.
Five scenes
I composed five of the walk’s scenes, credited on ECHOES as Gabriel Worm Mascarenhas de Moraes:
- Cena 1 – Crianças e cantor (children and a singer)
- Cena 2 – Jantar em família (family dinner)
- Cena 3 – Construção civil (construction work)
- Cena 4 – Saxofonista (saxophonist)
- Cena 5 – Centro Comercial (shopping centre)
The five scenes share one premise. The city’s history sits in its architecture, in the buildings and public spaces that housed families from every corner of the world across generations. A building that stands empty today was once a soundscape full of life, and each scene lets the listener’s hearing guide their imagination toward what once lived there.
