O Compositor

An independent BA short film produced at Universidade Lusófona. As Sound Director, I owned every sound-related decision on the project, from the initial concept to the final mix: on-set recording, composition and recording of orchestral musicians, sound editing, and sound design.

The film’s premise — a composer who can’t hear his own work — demanded a soundscape that lived between performance and abstraction. The orchestral recording was the spine: real instruments captured with intimate close-miking, then folded into dialogue and atmospheric beds through a long session of editing and design. The result was strong enough to land a nomination at Prémio Curtas 2026 in the Best Composition (Melhor Composição) category — a Portuguese short film award. The nomination was for the original music composed for the film.
